What are the specifications for a halachic mikveh? Is any body of water such as a pond, river, or spring enough to fulfill the mitzvah of tevilah? Join Rabbi Dovid Fink as he examines the mechanics of the mikveh and what practical specifications need to be fulfilled for it to be kosher.

Mikveh Mechanics: Lesson 1 – זחילה
Class description

Our first class will deal with flowing water (as from a spring) and stationary water (as in a mikve).

Both are acceptable for immersion. Therefore both must be carefully defined.

When, exactly, is flowing water acceptable?

What defines stationary water?

A source sheet in both WORD format and pdf is available through the links. In class we will translate and explain these sources.

Class description

Today we finish the topic of water in motion (זוחלין) and stationary water (אשבורן) and begin to learn the rules governing the method of filling a man-made mikve with water.

Class description

שלג וקרח מלאכותי – Use of snow and artificially frozen water for a mikve.

In addition to being one of Rabbi Brovender's first students, Rabbi Dovid Fink is an outstanding expertᅠand teacher of Halacha. Rabbi Fink received his Rabbinic ordination from ITRI and the Mir and was awarded his Ph.D in Semitic Languages and Linguistics from Yale University. Rav Fink has taught thousands of students from all over the world for over 35 years.
