Lesson

Hello Everyone,

My name is Stuart Fischman and I am happy to welcome you to the series of shiurim on the subject of “I Forgot to Say..”

We are humans and the Sages who composed our prayers were also human. So the Sages, when they composed the prayers, besides instructing what must be said on a given occasion, also told us how to proceed when we forget.

There are two basically two types of mistakes that we can make. We can forget to say what were supposed to say and we can say what we were not supposed to say. Within those two broad categories we will see that there are certain mistakes that are “deal-breakers.” When we make those mistakes we need to repeat the prayer (usually the Amidah/Silent Prayer or Birchat haMazon) . Then there are mistakes that we can ignore and continue with the prayer in question.

In each of the shiurim in this series we will study one mistake. I doubt whether we will discuss every conceivable mistake with these classes, but I do hope that we will understand the principles that lead to the conclusions of the Halacha so that the rules will  appear to be neither  arbitrary nor capricious.

I look forward to meeting with you tomorrow.
