Simchat Torah: Everyone Gets an Aliya

Simchat Torah: Everyone Gets an Aliya

Simchat Torah: Everyone Gets an Aliya: Simchat Torah: Everyone Gets an Aliyat
Class description

On Simchat Torah, it is nowadays customary to call the whole congregation, one after another, to recite the brachot on the reading of the Torah.

Since recitation of unnecessary brachot is prohibited so as not to use Gd’s name in vain, this custom calls for explanation.

A source sheet in both WORD format and pdf is available through the links. In class we will survey the history, development, and halachic justification for this custom.
