Megillat Esther with the Malbim

This class will study Megillat Esther using the primary commentaries of Rashi and the Malbim. Skills in exegesis (critical interpretation of different approaches to Pshat – the simple interpretation of the text) will be developed and students will learn to decipher the limits to determining Pshat. The Malbim’s commentary on Megillat Esther poses questions based on the text used int the Megilla and creates a novel story like interpretation within the realm of Pshat that provides answers to these inconsistencies.
