Kashrut organizations all over the world prohibit swordfish even though it seems to have fins and scales. Juxtapose this with the fact that in canned tuna fish you cannot see any fins or scales begging the question how the kashrut of such tuna be established? Join Rabbi Dovid Fink as he examines the opinions of the poskim regarding the halachic definition of fins and scales and the status of swordfish.

In our first session of this miniseries, we will survey the opinions of the poskim regarding the kashrut of swordfish.

The controversy over swordfish reveals fundamental principles governing the role of mysticism and the role of science in determining halacha.

In class we will translate and explain these sources.
