The Festival Pilgrimage

The Festival Pilgrimage

During the times of the Beit Hamikdash, Jews were required to make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem for the Shlosh Regalim, the three festivals of Pesach, Shavuot, and Sukkot. Join Rabbi Dr. Stuart Fischman as he explores how this worked in ancient times and what it means for Jews today, in a world without the Beit Hamikdash.

Class description

Hello Everyone,
The three holidays of our calendar, Pesach, Shavuot and Sukkot, were pilgrimage holidays. The Rambam lists five mitzvot in connection with the pilgrimage to Jerusalem. In addition to the holiday pilgrimage there was one more occasion for pilgrimage and that was the pilgrimage made by farmers who brought an offering of the first fruits to the Temple. This is the mitzvah of ביכורים.
In these two meetings we will discuss the holiday pilgrimage (עלייה לרגל) as well as ביכורים.
I look forward to studying these Halachot with you.
