The Mitzvah of Remembering the Destruction

The Mitzvah of Remembering the Destruction

As a people we commemorate the loss of the Temple in two fashions. One way is by observing the fast days which mark the significant events that led to its loss. The second way is by placing limits on joyous events. This is in keeping with the words of Tehilim , chapter 137, “….if I do not keep Jerusalem in memory even at my happiest hour.” Join Rabbi Dr. Stuart Fischman as he explores how this halacha teaches how to keep the memory of the Temple alive after close to 2000 years.

Rabbi Dr. Stuart Fischman graduated from Yeshiva University in 1980 and the dental school of Columbia University in 1985. In 1989 he began studying and teaching at Yeshivat Hamivtar and now studies and teaches at Yeshivat Machanaim in Efrat. He has rabbinic ordination from Rav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg.
