The Women of Rosh HaShana

Sarah, Chanah, Hagar and others are at the heart of texts that are connected not only to Rosh Hashanah liturgy, but Rosh Hashanah itself. We will look at texts from Tanach, the Midrash, Talmud, and later commentaries as well.
The Women of Rosh HaShana: Lesson 1
The Women of Rosh HaShana…Chana, and Sarah: It is not only the Torah readings and the Haftorah that connect Chanah and Sarah to Rosh Hashanah, but the Talmud’s understanding of that very deep albeit hidden connection. Doing a close reading of Shmuel and the accompanying rabbinic texts, we’ll learn why of all the Chagim, Rosh Hashanah so deeply connects with them.
The Women of Rosh HaShana: Lesson 2
A Look at More of Sarah, Chana, and the Mystery woman…the Shunamit: Last week we saw that Sarah’s tears were exemplified by the blowing of the shofar. I received some evocative emails from some of you. Today, we will look at Chanah’s tears, her prayer, and her different kind of sacrifice. If there is time, we will look at the Shunamit woman, her selflessness, and her strength of character, and its connection to Rosh Hashanah.
