The Seder 2023: Rachtzah

The Seder 2023: Rachtzah

Observant Jews perform ritual washing of the hands often and especially before eating a meal. What makes it so significant at the seder to warrant it being highlighted alongside things like matzah and maror? Join Rabbi Dr. Stuart Fischman as he explores washing hands with a bracha at the seder.

Class description

Hello Everyone,

One of the “סימנים” of the Seder is “רחצה”- washing our hands before we eat the matzah. But while “רחצה” is enumerated with the other stages of the Seder it is not unique to the Seder. Whenever we eat bread we first wash our hands.

So this evening we will review the Halachot of רחצה keeping in mind that what we will learn today is relevant for every day of the year.

Rabbi Dr. Stuart Fischman graduated from Yeshiva University in 1980 and the dental school of Columbia University in 1985. In 1989 he began studying and teaching at Yeshivat Hamivtar and now studies and teaches at Yeshivat Machanaim in Efrat. He has rabbinic ordination from Rav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg.
