The Obligation of Chinuch
Chinuch – Educating the Young in Mitzvot: The commandments of the Torah do not apply to children under the age of Bar/Bat Mitzvah but we are obligated to educate them in mitzvot and train them to perform the mitzvot correctly. Join Rabbi Dovid Fink and study the principle rabbinic sources defining the parent’s and the community’s obligations vis-à-vis their children.
The Obligation of Chinuch: Lesson 1
These are the principle topics we will cover: Who is obligated to educate/train children to do mitzvot? Whom must we educate/train? At what age? Do children have any obligation to perform mitzvot? Which approach to education should we choose? How should we educate/train our children to do mitzvot? Is there any value in instructing children to be stricter than the halacha requires? The course is based on the principle rabbinic sources in Hebrew and every text will be fully translated in class. A link with sources has been sent to all participants.
