Marriage and Procreation
Join Rabbi Dovid Fink and examine the principle rabbinic sources defining the mitzva of marriage and procreation. Does the value of marriage and procreation supersede other mitzvot of the Torah? What are the halachic sources regarding adoption, artificial insemination, and other forms of assisted fertility?
Marriage and Procreation: Lesson 1
How Important is the Mitsva of Marriage? We will begin by studying the importance of marriage in halachic terms. To what extent does the mitsva of marriage supersede other Torah values? When can halachic leniencies be accepted in order to enable a couple to marry?
Marriage and Procreation: Lesson 3
Artificial Insemination (Husband): Our next topic deals with artificial insemination from a woman’s husband. (We will discuss artificial insemination from a foreign donor in a later class.) Is it permitted for a man to provide sperm for insemination? Is it permitted to inseminate a woman during her nidda period? Is the sperm donor (in this case the husband) considered to be the halachic father of the offspring? We will survey the opinions of the great poskim on these issues.
