Kohanim & the Tzibur
The tradition of the Kohanim, the priests who served in the Temple, are integrated into our tefilah today. Join Rabbi Dr. Stuart Fischman and explore how that came to be and what the halachot for the tzibur, the congregation, are when it comes to the Kohanim’s part in the daily prayer service.
Kohanim & the Tzibur: Kohanim & the Tzibur
Hello Everyone,
Welcome to this shiur titled “Kohanim and the Tzibur.”
We live in an era in which people question ( and rightly so) the legitimacy of inherited prerogatives. Whether it is the wealth of royal families or the power of political dynasties, there is a reluctance by many to accept these inherited privileges as just.
So in today’s shiur we will study the Halachot regarding the relationship of the Kohanim and the rest of the Jewish people. What is the role of the Kohanim ? What are their duties? And what do the non-Kohanim owe to the heirs of the first Kohen, Aharon?
Rabbi Dr. Stuart Fischman graduated from Yeshiva University in 1980 and the dental school of Columbia University in 1985. In 1989 he began studying and teaching at Yeshivat Hamivtar and now studies and teaches at Yeshivat Machanaim in Efrat. He has rabbinic ordination from Rav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg.
