Eating Dairy on Shavuot: Chalavie on Shavuot
Class description

Hello Everyone

In my lifetime I have seen the custom of eating “dairy/milchig/chalavi”  on Shavuot evolve (or regress depending on one’s perspective). When I was a youngster in New York during the Johnson-Nixon years Shavuot’s dairy food was a cheesecake before lunch which was meat based. Now , and especially here in Israel, the Shavuot meal is entirely dairy. There is no meat on the Shavuot menu.

Is this a good thing?

We will talk about this today.

Rabbi Dr. Stuart Fischman graduated from Yeshiva University in 1980 and the dental school of Columbia University in 1985. In 1989 he began studying and teaching at Yeshivat Hamivtar and now studies and teaches at Yeshivat Machanaim in Efrat. He has rabbinic ordination from Rav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg.
